The beautiful Bianca cannot marry until a husband can be found for her headstrong sister, Katherine. Petruchio takes the challenge. He promises to tame the shrew and bring her "from a wild Kate to a Kate conformable as other household Kates."
PFT has been invited to work closely with the students of the Theatre and Stagecraft Departments at Douglas College in New Westminster to produce The Taming of the Shrew - to open in March 2006. Artistic Director Stephen Drover and designer Francesca Albertazzi will take the interesting challenge of cross-gender casting the entire play, thus making available to a training program a Shakespeare play with 4 male roles and 12 female roles. We believe that this will shed new light (or pose new questions) on the gender issues present in a story where a man is encouraged to force a woman to bow to his will, at the same time preserving the hilarious farcical quality of the play.
