Bassanio needs money to impress a lady. Antonio, a merchant, borrows it from Shylock the money-lender to finance his friend, confident that he can pay it back. If he can’t? Shylock will demand “an equal pound of your fair flesh to be cut off and taken in what part of your body pleaseth me.” The Merchant of Venice, Shakespeare’s grisly play of ownership, justice and mercy is condensed into The Bond, focusing on Shylock and Antonio’s gruesome agreement.
Credits: directed by Stephen Drover and featured the acting talents of Bob Frazer, Sarah Rodgers, Andrew Smith, Todd Thompson and Andrew Vokey. Set and costume design by Francesca Albertazzi and stage management by Adam Stokes.
